How to Clean Exterior Windows Without a Ladder

Depending on the height of your home or office, cleaning your exterior windows can be a serious hassle. The exterior windows, especially the ones that face the direction of the wind are susceptible to a wide range of different problems that you’ll have to face. They get dirty very quickly and, if they’re high off the ground, they’re very difficult to clean. Most people climb up a ladder with some window cleaner and some towels to try to clean it. Falls from ladders are a serious source of injuries every year. Not only is cleaning high windows from a ladder dangerous, it’s also ineffective. Instead of a ladder, try one of these techniques.

Pressure Washer

If you have a pressure washer or a car wash attachment for a garden hose, you can clean your exterior windows. When professionals clean windows, they use soapy water and then they squeegee it off. Depending on how clean you need your windows, a squeegee might be unnecessary. You should invest in the liquid that professionals use to clean windows; it’s a concentrated liquid designed to be diluted. You can then use the garden hose or the pressure washer to spray the cleaning liquid on your windows. If you’re using a pressure washer make sure the pressure is turned down or you’re far enough away to not break the window.

After you’ve soaped the window, rinse it with clear water. You want to do this at or near the warmest part of the day so the window will dry quickly. The longer the window takes to dry, the more likely it is to develop water spots or streaks.

Long Handle Brush

Many professional window washers use a special brush that attaches to the end of a long handle. Many of them even have a hollow handle so that you can attach a hose and feed soapy water through the brush. Typically, you can reach to at least the second floor with that. Soap up the windows with your long brush. You can then remove the soap with a squeegee or by spraying it with a hose. If you use a squeegee, you’ll be able to get the window the cleanest.

Clean From the Inside

You could also clean your high windows from the inside. You should be extra careful if you are going to do this. Falling out of a window is just as dangerous as falling off a ladder.
